Cystic acne is the most serious type of acne a person can suffer with. It is usually the main reason people seek medical treatment for acne. Doctors also consider it the most difficult to treat of all acne.

To make that more understandable, cystic acne is a description for an form of acne that is classified as inflammatory. Generally, the infection that occurs with a singular pimple is confined to the follicle (pore). However with cystic acne, the inflammation, infection and pus spills over to the surrounding tissue and an abscess is formed. The infections are usually deep under the skin and do not rise to the surface. These can be very painful and can occur anywhere on the body, but mostly it occurs on the face.

Why cystic acne occurs can be contributed to many reasons. At times genetics plays a part and it can be passed along for generations. Hormones are the greatest culprit. Still, cystic acne can occur as result of picking, squeezing, popping or constant touching of the acne. Other factors that contribute to cysts are stress, unhealthy lifestyle, and poor nutrition.

Generally, cystic acne is commonly seen in the teenage years due to the increase of hormones associated with puberty. However, adults are prone to cystic acne, especially women during the menstrual cycle. The common thread here is the hormones at play.

Since, infection waste is not discharged, cystic acne takes more time to heal then simple acne. The process of healing these cysts is very long and may take at least 6 months. Acne cysts are also capable of leaving permanent scars. Most dermatologists consider acne cysts the most severe of its kind.

The best solution to how to how to get rid of cystic acne is adopt a holistic approach. It is not much point of treating the blemishes externally without treating them internally as well.

One of the accepted treatments, as part of a holistic approach, is a healthy and nutritious diet. Lots and lots of vegetable, whole grains, fruits can really help the skin to fight against disorders or germs. Naturally, organic is best, but not always feasible. Also, ample amounts of water helps the skin to rejuvenate and look more healthy and fresh. Try to reduce, if not eliminate the use of caffeine. Caffeine is especially dehydrating to the skin.

Adding some vitamin supplements like vitamin A, B6, and Zinc can help reduce the oil production that causes acne and is a good preventative measure for how to get rid of cystic acne. Likewise, exercise and gentle massages increase circulation to the skin which which will ultimately reduce the number of bacterial germs and thus the number of acne cysts.

If a holistic routine is not enough to keep cystic acne under control, then the best advise is to see a dermatologist. Cystic acne being the most severe form of acne, will leave scarring. Under a dermatologists care, and with the proper medications, cystic acne can be brought under control.
